History Day Camp 2008

History is child’s play at LCHS during its Summer History Day Camp. This summer, the camp runs from August 4 through August 8 from 9 a.m. to noon each day.  Long time volunteer, Jayme Hilsher coordinates activities.

Campers, ages 8 – 12, will learn about the history of our region through a variety of hands-on experiences including American Indian and lumbering activities, a flintknapping demonstration, arts and crafts, a trolley tour of historic Williamsport, a ride on the Hiawatha to learn about the lumber boom, and much more.

There is a fee and advanced registration is required.  For LCHS members, the cost is $60.  For non-members, the cost is $70.  To register your child, call the museum at 326-3326 or drop-in and complete the required application.

You can also download the application form here.

Application deadline is July 28.

History Day Camp 2007

Twenty-six children who attended this summer's History Day Camp participated in many activities including butter making, paper making, basket weaving, corn grinding, a simulated archeological dig, and various lumbering activities. The week-long camp ended with an entertaining dulcimer performance by Bruce and Lucy Henry as they spoke of the instrument and its construction, a pizza party, and a ride on the Hiawatha to see the remnants of the Susquehanna Boom. Former camper and frequent volunteer Jayme Hilsher once again coordinated camp. She did a terrific job in overseeing the camp's activities and making sure that everything was in place for each day. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this year's camp a success. We could not have done it without you.
