Summer History Day Camp 2009
In spite of two rainy days and one bloody nose, twenty six campers
enjoyed a plethora of historical hands-on activities and left
begging for more. Well, if not begging, then at least happy, if
smiles and laughter were any indication. Activities included basket
making and butter making, an archaeological excavation, a trolley
tour of historic Williamsport, a Hiawatha paddleboat excursion to
see the remnants of the Susquehanna Log Boom, spinning, long rifle
loading, and flintknapping demonstrations, dulcimer music and ball
room dancing, and much more.
Thank you to Day Camp Coordinator Kayla Black for a job
well done. Kayla, who is completing a Master’s Degree in Public
History at Shippensburg University, spent the summer at the museum
performing the many duties necessary to have the week of activities
fall into place. And thank you to all the volunteers who make this
annual event possible.
History Day Camp will be back in the summer of 2010, so keep watching this page for details.
