Williamsport CemeteryWilliamsport: The Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society, 858 West Fourth Street, Williamsport, will be holding the fifth in a series of workshops for children on Saturday, June 1, 2019, from 9:00am until 12:30pm. The workshop is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is strongly requested. The costs of the workshop are underwritten by a grant from Lodge No. 106 Free and Accepted Masons.

The Children’s Workshop will be a study of history and genealogy. Participants are requested to meet at the Williamsport Cemetery on Washington Blvd. (across from The Sticky Elbow), where they will be met by local historical investigator Bruce Huffman. Huffman will conduct a tour of the Cemetery, highlighting a number of the ‘residents’ who distinguished themselves during their lifetimes. Children are encouraged to bring a camera, cellphone, or other device capable of taking a photograph or a notebook and pencil. They will be asked to record the information on a tombstone or tombstones they would like to research.

Once the tour is complete, participants will be asked to reassemble at the Lycoming County Historical Society, 858 West Fourth Street. The children will be met by Bill Gibson and Kay Bitner, members of the Lycoming County Genealogical Society. The children will be guided toward appropriate research materials. A snack will be provided. In the event of inclement weather, the workshop will be rescheduled, but a rain date has not been established.

The Workshops will be open to children of any age and are free of charge. Pre-registration is strongly requested. An application is available at the Front Desk or online. For further information, please call 570.326.3326.
