‘Break Time’, the work of regional artist Steve Getz, President of the Clinton County Arts Council and Piece by Roger Shipley, Emeritus Professor of Art, Lycoming College

The Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society has recently acquired representative works of two regional artists, Roger Shipley and Steve Getz. The two pieces will be on display in the Museum’s Art Gallery.

Roger Shipley, Emeritus Professor of Art, Lycoming College, works in a variety of media. He shows regionally and nationally drawings, paintings, etchings and sculpture. His two dimensional works focus on the landscape, seascape and female form. His three dimensional works in plexiglas and bronze show an inter-play of manmade geometrical shapes with natural organic forms. He also is working with a figurative series in bronze and hydrostone. He was recently asked by Public Art Works in Williamsport to do a commissioned outdoor bronze sculpture entitled ‘Germination’ to be placed on the site of the new Trade and Transportation Center in Williamsport. Shipley has loaned to the Taber one of his signature Plexiglas pieces entitled ‘Pictorial Participation #71’ created in 1990. As one views the piece, the strategic placement of Plexiglas interplays with the light and angles, creating forms including the heart.

As well, the museum has received ‘Break Time’, the work of regional artist Steve Getz. Getz, a former student of Roger Shipley, is currently the President of the Clinton County Arts Council. His realistic depiction of four work horses resting in front of a barn emblazoned with a painted advertisement for ‘Mail Pouch Tobacco’ has been a favorite of staff and patrons of the Taber Museum. It has been reproduced as a limited edition print. Getz remarked, “I am honored to be included in this amazing collection of artwork by many of the most noted artists from this area.”
