The Taber Museum hosted Barry Stocker, on November 10, 2016 as part of its Lecture Series to talk about Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Bands in the Civil War.

On Monday, October 24, the Manor Hall Dollhouse had visitors. Dr. Nicholas and Mrs. Annette Finnis had traveled from Christ Church, New Zealand to view the dollhouse built by his grandfather Mowbray Ernest Finnis in the 1930s and given to the museum by Dr. Michael and Mrs.Rickie Gross in 2011.

The Williamsport Gesang Verein Harmonia Chorus, under the direction of Michael J. Connor, was featured at the Taber Museum’s October Society Program on Sunday, October 16, 2016.

The Taber Museum hosted Mary Hirst, Manager of the Ole Bull State Park, on Thursday morning, October 13, 2016 to lecture on the fascinating life of Ole Bull.

Human Form & Beyond was the title of the 2016 exhibition from the talented students of the Dr. June E. Baskin Visual Arts Fund 2016 Art Camp. The exhibition was displayed in September 2016.

At its August 21, 2016 Society Program, the Taber Museum presented the River Valley Singers performing the music of Robert Lowry.

Lycoming County Historical Society History Day Camp featured a World War theme. Day Camp ran from August 1-5, 2016.

The week of puzzlement at the Lycoming County Fair is finally over. The historical artifact from the Taber Museum’s collection that was on display has been identified. It is . . . an asparagus server!

The Lycoming County Historical Society was at the 2016 Lycoming County Fair with a new historical artifact problem. Director Gary Parks chose well, and this year’s problem was particularly challenging.

On Sunday, July 17, 2016, the Taber Museum presented a program featuring the Repasz Band. The program included a short history of the Repasz Band by Director Al Nacinovich. Interspersed throughout the history ‘lecture’, an ensemble drawn from the Band performed a number of musical pieces.

In conjunction with the Sesquicentennial celebration of Williamsport’s City Charter, granted in 1866, the Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society hosted a series of mini lectures on July 2, 2016.

Famous storyteller Mark Twain made an appearance at Ways Garden on Saturday, July 2, 2016. Twain had not visited since he lectured on New Year’s Eve 1869 at the new Ulman Opera House.

On June 19, 2016 the Taber Museum presented a lecture by Dr. Oscar Knade on the tremendous impact of Dr. Kenneth Raessler on the musical program of the Williamsport Area School District, bringing it to national attention and excellence.

In the Spring of 2016, board member and master botanist Larry Fryda, made a number of the baby voodoo lilies available for adoption - and also to help the Taber Museum.

The Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society’s May program featured Van Wagner, a regional storyteller and musician, who presented the ‘Tall Timber & Log Rafting Heritage Program’ followed by his popular musical tribute to the logging and lumbering heritage of Pennsylvania. The free program was well attended by more than 50 people.

CasinoEvil celebrated the Roaring Twenties with a night of food, liquid spirits and games of chance, all as a fundraiser to benefit the Lycoming County Historical Society and Preservation Williamsport.

Lauren Brandenburg, a senior at Loyalsock High School, was named the winner of the 2016 Richard L. and Miriam L. Swan Mix Student Historian Award. The award was presented by former Board President John Raymond, at the 2016 Society annual meeting. Read the winning essay!

Each year the President of the Board of Governors recognizes one of the Taber Museum’s volunteers for the honor of “Volunteer of the Year.” Of course, the Museum and its activities would be lost without its dedicated and hard working volunteers. This year’s winner of the President’s Volunteer award is Glenn Williams. He was recognized at the Lycoming County Historical Society’s 2016 annual meeting.

The Taber Museum hosted its second 2016 Coffee Hour on Thursday, April 14 in the Community Room of the Taber with a showing of the film ‘The Pajama Game’.

The Taber Museum hosted its first 2016 Coffee Hour on Thursday, March 10. United Methodist Archivist, Dr. Milton Loyer spoke on the intriguing subject “James M. Black and Friends: Williamsport’s Contribution to the Gospel Song.”

The young ladies of Girl Scout Troop #60221 recently tried out our new Twentieth Century dress up area: The clothing was purchased from a grant given to the LCHS by the Free and Accepted Masons, Lodge.
